Using Creative Communication Skills

It is necessary that one learn to use creative communication skills in order to develop personal potential. As in previous papers, I have indicated the importance of the individual and the teacher as related to various aspects of the Round Dance Teaching and Learning situation, communication is our greatest hang-up when it comes to misunderstandings and loss of interest. In many cases, entire classes have been destroyed as well as aspirations of teachers because of communication. Such things as body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, eye contact, voice volume, dress and atmosphere often speak louder than actual words.

The most important professional asset of the teacher is the ability to effectively communicate with others. The teachers who have developed the communication skills are often the ones thought to be the most personable, charismatic and influential. They are the ones people listen to and take seriously. For some reason or another, people respect authority and this comes through proper communication.

The aware teacher will understand this and use it to create a high achieving atmosphere for those they are teaching. This teacher becomes effective in the teaching of Round Dancing and an invaluable asset to the movement because they have the ability to effectively communicate with the person who is wanting to learn. It is necessary that we learn to have, not only consistent teaching techniques but also, the means to really put across what we are trying to teach. Confidence is the name of the game, both in teaching and dancing, therefore it becomes a challenge for us all to know and understand the meaning of communication. We have the responsibility, we must also have the authoritative approach, respected by everyone, which is only available through proper and acceptable communication techniques.
